"Rage, rage against the dying light"

The close of October plunges us into a darker season of the year and already now, as November dawns, the darkness creeps up on us in the afternoons.  Many of the trees and bushes in the garden softly succumb to the autumn and slowly, almost imperceptibly,  the foliage disperses,  reducing them to mere skeletal forms.  Not so, the hedge that borders our garden.

It does not go gently,
but rages against the failing season.
The leaves blaze with a short, furious intensity until suddenly they have gone: dropped to the ground where they lie like embers after the inferno is extinguished.

I was just in time to gather some leaves, then,

pressed them to use as decorations and to sprinkle on  the autumn table

where angelic white chocolate cherubs rest atop voluptuous   chocolate cup cakes.

  2. The trees are suddenly doing their last blaze of colour here too, I wish those leaves could hold on for just a little longer, they are so beautiful! Great idea pressing them, so at least you can go on enjoying their colour on your table!

Thanks for visiting my blog and your lovely comments. x

  6. Hello Anna:
'Do not go gentle into that good night'. How wonderfully well you have employed Dylan Thomas' words taken from that so splendid poem to fit the theme of this post where 'Rage, rage against the dying of the light' is so appropriate for the present season.

Your little cakes look positively delicious.

  12. Oh, you know, when it comes to brown chocolate, I can generally pretty much take it or leave it. But white chocolate? I rarely resist. Putting the two together like that is just eval / wonderful, I can't decide which. That hedge is lovely and it was a great idea to bring those leaves in! We were just saying that the whole autumn thing doesn't really happen much in our neck of the woods. The shortening days have me going out for runs or walks mid-day just now; I can't face running around in the dark just yet!

  15. Those delightful and delicious looking chocolate treats are far too beautiful to eat. They could so easily be the decoration in a chocolatier's window.

  17. Hello Anna, I can sympathize with your feelings entirely. As I get older I seem to appreciate the light more and more. I love Autumn, but find winter a little too long! However, there is always food and drink to cheer us. Your cupcakes are delightful. I just love the little cherubs.

Thankyou so much for your very kind words. I didn't know whether to write that post or not. I have been moved to tears by what you have written, and feel that I did do the right thing.
Have a wonderful week, and thankyou once again, your words mean a lot! Love Linda x

  18. Dearest Anna,

What a lovely post with vibrant fall colors, for as long as they're lingering... I hate the 'skeleton' period of the garden, that's why we choose for several evergreen shrubs and trees. For having at least some green in winter, after having lived for three winters in the tropics in Indonesia, it is harder even.
Your angelic chocolate cupcakes are divine! What a perfect presentation. Some bakery must have a great silicon mold for making them.
    Love to you,

    Mariette

You are quite right, sleeping through winter seems like a great idea :o)
The tree candelabra is lovely, but I need to find some small candles to fit the holders now.
Hope you have a lovely week!
